This document describes the procedures and best practices that the Shiawassee Regional Educational Services District (SRESD) will follow to identify and serve students who are eligible for services under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Appendix D to this document informs parents and students of their rights under Section 504 and is intended to satisfy the requirements of 34 CFR 104.36. This document, and its attachments, are also intended to serve as a guide to SRESD’s constituent districts to assist them in meeting the requirements of Section 504.

 

This document does not contain the policies of the SRESD’s Board of Education, nor should it be used by SRESD’s constituent districts as a substitute for Board policies. Furthermore, this document only addresses the elementary and secondary educational requirements of Section 504. This document does not address Section 504 as it pertains to employment accommodations, post-secondary education, accessibility of facilities, or health and welfare services. This document does not address a district’s obligations under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act ("IDEA"), the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, or any other federal or state civil rights laws.
