CTE PARAPROFESSIONALS
The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department employs Paraprofessionals in the eight local school districts in the county to assist students in reaching their academic and occupational potential. Paraprofessionals help students study for tests and quizzes, complete assignments and projects, assist in the lab, or other program settings.
The Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act of 1998 refers to an identifiable segment of the career and technical education population as individuals who are members of special populations. The Act defines "special populations" as:
Individuals with disabilities
Individuals from economically disadvantaged families, including foster children
Individuals preparing for nontraditional training and employment
Single parents, including single pregnant women
Displaced homemakers
Each CTE Paraprofessional will be responsible for identifying special needs students in their respective classrooms. The Special Populations Coordinator will collect the required data to identify special need students. The CTE Paraprofessionals review data, develop a student listing, and assist those students identified to ensure they are successful in their respective CTE program.
The SRESD employs numerous CTE Paraprofessionals:
Byron High School: Denise Markley
Corunna High School: Vonda Evans and John Lawson
Durand High School: Michalene Lichon and Wendy Ziola
New Lothrop High School:
Owosso High School: Emily Kozan and Michelle McVay
