THE GREAT START COLLABORATIVE

THE GREAT START COLLABORATIVE is an association of agencies, parents and individuals across the state of Michigan committed, under the leadership of the Early Childhood Investment Corporation (ECIC), to the common goal of providing a Great Start for every child.

GREAT START–SHIAWASSEE is the partnership of local leaders acting as the planning and decision making body for Michigan's Great Start system at the local level.  Convened by the Shiawassee Regional Education Service District (SRESD), the Great Start Collaborative members include parents, business leaders, faith-based leaders, health care professionals, child care providers, pre-school educators, and other community leaders.

Great Start - Shiawassee usually meets the fourth Monday of every other month, 9:30a - 11a, at Shiawassee Regional Education Services building located at 1025 N. Shiawassee St, Corunna (see calendar).

The Status of Young Children in Shiawassee County

In order to make a wise decision about the future of our young children, we needed to know what their current status was in Shiawassee County.  The Shiawassee County Community Report (PDF) represents community data in five areas, each which makes a critical contribution to the optimal brain development, health and early learning of young children.

The results of the Shiawassee GSC Strategic Planning process in the form of the Shiawassee Early Childhood Action Agenda is available on-line.

Early experiences influence brain development

The young child's early experiences and environment directly impact the development of his or her brain.  These opportunities are shaping the brain and laying the foundation for future success in school and life.  Investing in our Youngest Learners slideshow is available on-line for viewing.  To request a presentation of this material to a group, please contact Lori Noyer at noyer@sresd.org
