CTE Health Science Academy
Course Description
The Health Science Academy program provides students with an introduction to a variety of healthcare occupations and knowledge of the coursework/career path necessary to enter into various health occupations. This course consists of classroom instruction and clinical rotations, and students will have the opportunity to earn their American Heart Association CPR certification and job shadow various medical professionals. In year 2, students will have the opportunity to complete Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) coursework. The coursework in this class is based on the National Health Care Foundation Standards and Accountability criteria. Classes held at the CCRC in Vernon.

Program Prerequisites
Students must have completed the 10th grade of high school and have a minimum 2.0 GPA. In addition, students are also required to provide current immunization records, record of a negative test for TB, and will be required to receive a flu vaccine. Year 2 students must be in good academic standing to enroll.
High School/College Credits
Students who successfully complete the Health Science Academy program will earn high school credit and will also have the opportunity to earn articulated college credit.
